File Types & Uploading
What file types can I upload to SignStudio?
SignStudio supports the following file types:

Do I need subtitles?
Subtitles are not required but recommended.
If you provide subtitles (preferably .srt or .vtt):
- Your translation will be more accurate
- Processing will be faster
If you don’t provide subtitles:
- We will generate them for you automatically
- Please review them to ensure accuracy, as they are used for translation
Providing subtitles in .srt or .vtt format is always recommended for the most accurate and fastest translations.
What length of video can I translate?
There is no maximum video length. Larger files may take longer to upload and process — Instant AI translations may take a few minutes for long videos.
How many videos can I submit?
There is no limit to the number of videos you can upload.
Can I edit or update my files after submitting them?
No. You cannot edit files once they have been submitted for translation. If you need to make changes, upload a new version.

AI Translation Rules & Restrictions
What content can I translate using AI?
You can translate most types of content into BSL using AI, as long as it is not restricted.
Instant AI cannot be used for content related to:
- Medical information
- Live critical health announcements (e.g. COVID updates)
- Mental health-related content
- Weddings & civil ceremonies
- Live translations in police stations or prisons
- Child protection matters
- Courtrooms, solicitors & immigration
- Live translations in schools, FE, HE or exams
- Live political content

Platform Features
Does SignStudio support customisation?
Yes. Depending on your subscription, you can:
- Choose background colours
- Use digital signers (Rae or Mars — BSL)
- Apply templates
- Add your company logo
These options appear during the editing flow.
Can I access previously translated files?
Yes. All translated videos are stored in your Library and can be viewed or downloaded anytime.

Turnaround Times & Delivery
What turnaround time can I expect?

How do I receive my translated video?
All completed translations appear in your Library within SignStudio.
To download:
- Go to your Library and locate the video
- Tick the checkbox on the video thumbnail
- Choose from the buttons that appear:
- Download selected files — downloads the translated video
- Download additional files — downloads both the translated video and the raw translation file
- Delete selected files — removes the selected file(s) from your library
- Enter a file name in the pop-up
- Click Download — files are saved to your device’s Downloads folder
